Uncage the Lion
How many of us really know what the Bible has to say about the questions that face us in the 21st Century? Does it have anything to say at all?
The famous Victorian preacher the Rev Charles Spurgeon said that the Bible, just like a caged lion, did not need to be defended but released from its cage.
That is the challenge of a series of evening meetings organised by Barthol Chapel. To find out for ourselves what the Bible says about our world today and then to work through how that knowledge, when released, can change our lives.
We meet about three times a year, in different homes, beginning each evening with a “bring and share” supper, before studying Bible passages relevant to a particular contemporary issue.
The issues are chosen by the group and have included:
- the problem of suffering and pain
- pride and prejudice
- the good the bad and the ugly - lessons from the early Church
- the green Christian - relationships between us, God and the natural world
